Abstract

This study analyzes the spatial and temporal variability of precipitation in the southern region of Goiás State, Brazil, based on historical rainfall series covering the period from 1994 to 2024. Observational data were obtained from the CLIMABR/UFV platform for the municipalities of Campo Alegre de Goiás, Goianésia, Marzagão, and Três Ranchos, representative of the Cerrado biome. The methodological approach combined multiscale descriptive statistics (daily, monthly, and annual), seasonality analysis, and assessment of interannual rainfall variability. Temporal trends were investigated using non-parametric statistical tests, given the non-normal distribution commonly observed in rainfall series. The results revealed a marked seasonal pattern, with rainfall concentrated between October and March, high daily and interannual variability, and the occurrence of exceptionally dry and wet years. No statistically significant linear trends were detected in annual precipitation totals throughout the study period. Comparative analysis among municipalities indicated spatial heterogeneity associated with physiographic characteristics and regional atmospheric dynamics. It is concluded that, although annual precipitation totals have remained relatively stable over the last three decades, intra-annual variability and the occurrence of extreme events remain fundamental features of the regional rainfall regime, with important implications for water resources management, agricultural planning, and environmental management in southern Goiás.
