Abstract

"Getting to Know the Amazonian Chelonia" is a project that seeks to highlight the importance of meaningfully addressing Environmental Education by popularizing knowledge about Amazonian turtles. Working with elementary school students from a public school in Manaus - AM, the project aims to educate students about the cultural and ecological importance of turtles to our ecosystem. Through the supervised internship III course, it was possible to assess students' prior knowledge of the topic, enabling meaningful development. It was observed that some students were unfamiliar with the term "chelonian," although most had a fondness for this group of animals and could share some experience keeping these species at home. Based on this information, a lesson and a visit to the Amazonian Turtle Study Center (CEQUA), were designed so that students could experience the life, diet, and habitat of the species present there firsthand. At the end of the project, it became very clear to the students how important turtles are to the environment, bearing in mind that there are conservation plans so that these species can continue to exist.
