Abstract

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) represents 90% of the malignancies that can affect the oral cavity, with great local destructive power and ability to suffer regional and distant mestastasis. A 53 years old male patiet, smoker and alcoholic. She sought care at the Cesumar University of Curitiba, presenting as the main complaint an increase in volume in the left mandibular region and paresthesia in the chin. After clinical examination, an ulcerated lesion of continuity was identified, with irregular, ill-defined, sessile-based and hardened borders. An incisional biopsy was performed, diagnosed and referred to the Basic Health Unit (BHU). After referral to the BHU, directing them to care at the Erasto Gaertner Hospital, the SCC was classified as stage IV, receiving the indication of palliative care, in terminal stage.Ten weeks after the diagnosis was confirmed, the patient died. Early diagnosis is essential for the treatment of SCC, so the importance of professionals mastering oral pathological alterations is emphasized. In addition, it is extremely important to know about the aggravating factors related to neoplasm.
