Antimicrobial resistance ontrolo f one of the major contemporary challenges for the prevention and ontrolo f healthcare-associated infections, particularly because it reduces treatment effectiveness and increases the complexity of care for patients affected by resistant microorganisms. This study is characterized as a literature review with a qualitative and descriptive-analytical approach and aims to analyze the main factors associated with antimicrobial resistance in healthcare settings, as well as the strategies used to prevent its spread and strengthen infection control. The methodology is based on the analysis of scientific publications and technical-scientific documents related to antimicrobial use, resistance mechanisms, infection prevention, and patient safety. The findings indicate that inappropriate and excessive antimicrobial use, failures in infection prevention and control practices, and the spread of resistant microorganisms contribute to the persistence of the problem in healthcare services. It is concluded that addressing antimicrobial resistance requires integrated actions, including rational antimicrobial use, microbiological surveillance, appropriate hand hygiene, adoption of precautions, continuing education of healthcare teams, and strengthening of infection prevention and control programs.
